Bounce-Boom Staff

Meet our staff

Since 2002, Gregg Deinhart and Stephan Schlagenhauff, co-owners of FirstServe Tennis, set out to establish a platform for fun, friendly, supportive instruction based on small group, low student-instructor ratios. The co-owners taught 100% of lessons initially but as the program grew, so did the staff. Sirgew Getachew (head tennis pro) and Stephen Lee (head pickleball pro) now lead a group of over 30 part-time instructors who coach over 1,000 students per week. The part-time staff is experienced and dedicated to sharing their passion for racquet sports, inspiring students to a lifelong love of the games of tennis and pickleball.

  • Gregg Deinhart, Managing Partner

Gregg began coaching tennis at the age of 16 with the Town of Amherst (New York) Park and Recreation programming in the 1980s. He later went on to manage the program while in college. Gregg was communications director of a trade association in Alexandria, Virginia when he had the first informal meeting with Stephan Schlagenhauff that would be the basis for FirstServe Tennis in 2002. With Schlagenhauff, the business partners would see FirstServe Tennis grow from its founding in 2002 to coaching over 1,000 tennis and pickleball students per week. Having taught thousands of students over the year, Gregg now enjoys helping instructors learn to be better coaches and continues to develop his own coaching knowledge. In addition to a BA in Communications, Gregg holds USPTA (Tennis) and PPR (Pickleball) teaching certifications.

  • Stephan Schlagenhauff, Managing Partner

Stephan has been involved in racquet sports for over 40 years as a varsity & tournament player, instructor, high school coach, program director and small-business co-owner. Stephan is certified by the USPTA (tennis) and PPR (pickleball) as well by EASI Tennis in high performance. Stephan is a member of the USPTA, PPR, USTA and USAPA. Prior to establishing FirstServe in 2002, Stephan worked in Asset-Backed Finance with the NYC office of an European bank ranked among the top ten in global assets. He graduated with a BA from Hamilton College (Clinton, NY) with a double major in Economics and German. Stephan furthered his studies at Georgetown University (DC) with an MBA in General Management. He is a native of Williamsville (Buffalo), NY and is a proud Town of Amherst staff alumni where he started his career.

  • Stephen Lee, Head Teaching Professional (Pickleball)

Stephen has been coaching tennis full or part time since graduating from college with a degree in Physical Education/Sports Management. Stephen has been with FirstServe since 2011, first as an instructor and then adding manager to his duties. His teaching background begins with his love of how learners learn. Using the skills of ball tracking and point of impact training that is critical for all moving ball sports he has been able to quickly teach eye/foot/hand coordination skills that transcend all levels of tennis and pickleball. The idea that we teach the same core skills to beginners and pro players is paramount. In the past two years he has developed a love for playing and coaching pickleball. He is also skilled at directing specific instruction to more advanced players to reshape strokes, movement and tactics.
